She runs. You know this because the alarm goes off at 5:15 on Saturdays, there is a foam roller living permanently in the middle of the living room, and every so often she comes home and says "negative split" with the same face other people use for "I won the lottery."
Now it is gift season, and you want to get her something that says "I see you, I support you, and I have accepted that our weekends belong to a training plan." Here is a guide for exactly that, written by people who live with a runner and have learned a few things the hard way.

Quick answer
Get her something she will touch every day that also makes her laugh: a funny mug for after the long run, a cozy hoodie, running socks or a bottle for the gym bag. Don't surprise her with running shoes, a GPS watch or fit-sensitive gear in a guessed size; a gift card, a morning off or showing up at her next race with a sign works better. For US Christmas delivery, order by Monday, November 30.
- Long Run Done. Now You Can Talk to Me mug (her version) ($22.99): the early riser who doesn't talk until the run is done.
- My Pace Is Private. My Mileage Is Not. hoodie ($59.99): the runner who posts every weekly total.
- Runs on Gels and Gossip hoodie ($59.99): the social runner who comes back with news from mile 14.
- Still Behind Me? Keep Up. running socks ($19.99): an easy stocking pick for any runner.
- Electrolytes and Opinions on Shoes bottle ($36.99): the gym bag regular with strong feelings about carbon plates.
We're Run & Tell, the shop Tal, a mom of two, started after cheering for her runner husband Shalev at races and finding only cheesy or generic runner gifts.
First, figure out which runner you are shopping for
Not every runner wants the same thing. A quick way to narrow it down:
The early riser. Out the door before anyone is up. Coffee is sacred. She does not want to talk until the run is done. Get her something for the after.
The racer. Has a goal time, a spreadsheet and a race calendar. Knows exactly what gear she likes. Do not surprise her with gear. (More on that below.)
The social runner. Runs with a group, a friend or a podcast. Comes back with more news than miles. Get her something that makes her laugh.
The new runner. Just did her first 5K or half, and is a little surprised she likes it. Get her something that says "this is officially a thing you do now."
Funny gifts she will actually use
The best runner gifts are things she touches every day: a mug, a hoodie, a bottle, socks. Here are our favorites for her.
For the early riser: Long Run Done. Now You Can Talk to Me mug (Her Version) ($22.99). The whole house already knows the rule. Now the mug says it out loud. It is the easiest "I get you" gift on this list.
For the one who posts every run: My Pace Is Private. My Mileage Is Not. hoodie ($59.99). The splits stay in the watch. The weekly total goes everywhere. A cozy hoodie with a raised puff print for the post-run couch.
For the social runner: Runs on Gels and Gossip hoodie ($59.99). Some runners come back with a PR. Yours comes back with news from mile 14. Also a raised puff print, also very warm.
For the stocking: Still Behind Me? Keep Up. running socks ($19.99). The left sock asks the question, the right sock answers it, and the line sits on the back of the ankle for whoever is chasing her.
For the gym bag: Electrolytes and Opinions on Shoes bottle ($36.99). A 20oz insulated stainless steel bottle. One thing in it gets refilled after every run. The other (opinions on carbon plates) never runs out.

Gear to skip as a surprise
This is the most useful paragraph in this guide, so read it twice.
Do not surprise her with running shoes. Runners are very particular about shoes: the model, the size, the drop, the cushion. A pair she did not pick is a pair she will politely return. If you want to give shoes, give a gift card to her favorite running store and offer to drive.
Do not surprise her with a GPS watch unless she has told you the exact model. Same reason. Watches are personal, and many runners already have strong feelings about brands.
Be careful with "performance" clothing in sizes you guessed. Running tights and sports bras are fit-sensitive. Hoodies, mugs, hats and socks are much safer bets.
Gifts that are not things
Some of the best gifts for a runner are not in a box at all.
A morning off. Take the kids, the dog or the to-do list, and give her a long run with no clock on it. Put it on a card if you need something to wrap.
A route with a message. Plan her a heart-shaped run on your own streets. Our Strava art ideas link to free routes she can load on her watch.
A race entry. If she has mentioned a race she wants to run, sign her up (or give her the entry fee with a nice note). Check the date with her first, quietly.
A massage or a session with a sports physio. Most runners need one and never book it.
Showing up. If she has a race coming, be at the finish line. Bring a sign. You can make one in a minute with our free marathon sign maker, and if it is a big race, our spectator planner helps you work out where to stand and when she will pass.
If you are stuck, take the quiz
If you still cannot decide, our gift quiz for runners asks a few questions and suggests three picks. It takes about a minute.
And if she is the runner and you are the one who runs too (hello, running couples), our gifts for a runner husband guide covers the other side of the household. For smaller extras, see our running stocking stuffers.
One practical note for Christmas: everything is printed to order, so order by Monday, November 30 to have it in time. Our holiday gifts collection has the seasonal picks in one place.

Runner wife gift FAQ
What do you get a wife who loves running? Something she will use every day that also makes her laugh: a funny mug for after the long run, a cozy hoodie, running socks or an insulated bottle. Non-things work too, like a morning off to run or a race entry.
Should I buy my wife running shoes as a gift? Usually not as a surprise. Runners choose shoes very carefully. A gift card to her favorite running store is the safer way to give shoes.
What is a good small gift for a female runner? Running socks, a funny mug or a sticker for her laptop or water bottle. Small, useful and personal.
What are good gifts for a runner girlfriend? The same rules apply: pick things she touches every day, skip fit-sensitive gear, and add a gesture, like showing up at her next race with a sign.
What do runners want for Christmas? Honestly? Time to run, someone to cheer at the finish line and something cozy for after. A gift that covers one of those three is a good gift.
